So riddle me this folks:
IF someone is upgraded to the latest version of Snow Leopard (which includes that 'devil-spawn' of and App Store) and Apple is ONLY going to distribute LION thru the App Store - what the hell do you do after you down load it ?
Seeing as how you cannot be running the primary OS while you are in fact upgrading it ?
OR has Apple decided to run a full blown OS Upgrade like it does it regular updates now?
Why is Apple still including DVD Drives in it's Products ? Why not just completely do away w/ them - they've done it before w/ technology ? Maybe there's a reason why the new laptops that recently came out still have those drives in them beyond just burning disks of your kids playing in a bathtub?
Maybe - Apple will bring back Tape Drives - everyone gets a 50-pound case of Tape Media w/ an install of LION (that includes a free Tape Drive) w/ a Centronix to USB adapter and they will be delivered by purple elephants. Awesome.
Oooooh - let make **** up until the last second before Apple does in fact release it's products on the world w/ an explanation of how and what they are going to do w/ said products.
Well, let me tell you this: If Apple does indeed distribute Lion via the App Store... Apple has its bases covered, based on what I've seen with the Lion Developer Previews. (What I mean is this: Apple has devised a way to install Lion without a bootable disc in the DVD drive. It works darn well, too.)

Liberals mistimed this election. NDP will be the official opposition. Big changes coming, not all necessarily good.

This is appalling. I cannot believe this government intrusion is even legal.
So...where does parenting come into the picture here?! That is the problem with this and many, many other problems in society.
Edit: Posted my response without even reading other comments. Glad to see I'm not alone on this one.

I'd get one just for Zelda, Pilotwings and Starfox. But not at 230! That's ridiculous for a handheld machine that's primarily aimed at kids.
Gotta disagree there. Nintendo's handheld systems have always had a varied library. Have you seen the launch lineup? Metal Gear Solid, Street Fighter, 2 Resident Evil games, Madden, Ridge Racer, Asphalt. Even those Zelda and Mario titles are universal. The only obvious kids title I see is Nintendogs.

Whoever advised them to not put the maps onboard and download as needed, needs to be fired- poor decision.
Went from Cleveland to Flordia with a download based GPS on my iPhone, had no issues.

Typical of a company that has no business model right now; become a patent troll. Kind of a shame, Kodak used to be a great company, but they got left behind by the digital revolution.
Hey if they win this one, they will make 1B this year!!!

How do we distinguish corporate stores from privately owned ones?
Go to verizon's website, they will list corporate stores. They also list authorized retailers, ie "Joe's Phones".

TVs are being marketed because they have Facebook on them. If you don't think electronics manufacturers would not heavily promote that it supported Apple Airplay, just for the halo benefit alone, you are mistaken.
I just bought a new cutting-edge TV, and I researched the crap out of them. As such, I was exposed to tons of TV advertising. If in the course of all if that, if one of them made a Facebook app a headline point for why I should buy their TV, I missed that ad.
And by the way, the TV that I bought happens to have a Facebook App. But that's certainly was NOT a factor in why I bought it.
Again, I'm not saying the idea of incorporating Airplay into TVs is a bad idea- quite the contrary. My point is about getting it entrenched in all TVs by giving it away rather than trying to get $4 per unit for it. Those that want it win by it entrenching in all TVs. I question whether the $4 will yield a situation that it only gets into select TVs when it could eventually be everywhere.

Whether it ships or not, I hope it’s real and not just an OS hack. I’d like Apple to keep playing with different multitasking UIs. The current version is nice, and those iPad developer gestures are awesome, but it’s worth experimenting to find the best method.
The Expos thing is neat, but needs app icons added to the windows.
I like the new(?) folders—looks like they’d fit 3 icons across, to better match what you see in the folder icons! Hope they keep that system. Or something with 3 across. (Or, if nothing else, have 4 across but show the top-left 3x3 set in the icon.)
Anyone notice the lip around the edge on the front and back? Maybe will help avoid scratches when dragged on a flat surface.
Maybe that’s just how it looks in white, with that lighting? The glass may not be inset any more than the existing version—which has black plastic lip in the same place (flush with the glass).

Uh, I'd call that contrast! I like to placement of the replacement in the frame, it draws my eyes directly to him, and the looks from the players to his immediate left and right. I has me wondering what they are thinking.

Thanks for all the input.
I honestly haven't played much of the games some of you listed as platform-specific. I bought a Wii because of the virtual console games from old systems and the Zelda: Twilight Princess game available at launch. It was also $250 at the time versus like $400 and $600. I like a lot of the games I have bought for it, but damned EA Sports and it's awful NCAA Football attempt.
I think I like FPS games, but it of course depends on which one. I've heard a lot about Halo being good. I remember David Pollack talking about playing that with his roommates when he was at UGA. I think that was in the Halo 2 days. I liked playing Half-Life in college on our network, but I didn't play much of the story. SOCOM: US Navy SEALs was pretty awesome on the PS2, but I got stuck at a couple of parts on it.
As I said, I heard about a Magic: The Gathering game on 360 that sounds interesting. In my PC days, there was an online PC version of that game that I enjoyed a bit.
Someone may need to explain the point of such big hard disks to me on the 360 and PS3. I know you can download movies and such, but I'm still a disc whore/Apple whore. I've got a lot of BDs and DVDs that I use, plus I plan on getting an Apple TV whenever Steve-o decides to update it. I watch a TON of my DVDs ripped to my computer. The Wii has storage space mostly for saves and VC games. I have a 4GB SD card in there, which is way more than I need. See I'd buy the $250 system with two free games if not for the insanity of $90 for a WiFi adapter. My Wii has WiFi built in and costs $200 now. Microsoft, c'mon.
One last thing probably is system reliability. I've had a Wii since launch with no problems. I bought a PS2 before the slimming and it stopped playing stuff effectively, which forced me to buy a Slim. I don't know anybody who owned a PS2 who didn't have to do that. Consider me wary of Sony because of that, just this time the hardware has cost twice as much. I have two BD players. Yeah, it would be neat to have a newer one to replace my pre-Netflix streaming system that loads a little slow, but it still plays mostly fine. I've got another much better BD player, both of these Samsungs, and it's kick-ass.
Thanks again for the info. My only hangup right now on deciding on a 360 is the stinkin' Live Gold card. At least I don't have to buy that upfront. Oh yeah, I also don't want to see Tim Tebow's stupid face on NCAA Football for the next year. I would pay $100 for the game if I could get anybody on the cover but that douche. Unfortunately, even a replaced cover won't cover up the art in the game. AUGGH.

I'm sure Apple will progress the Mini to C2D when they Macbook is updated. The Mini only received a minor speed bump the last time around and I bet it had more to do with keeping consistant pricing than it did with updating a product.
If I remember right, the only change was the bottom end went from a Core Solo to Core Duo. And since the Core 2 Duos cost the same as Core 1 Duos, there is no financial reason for Apple to continue to use the older chips... so I agree the Mac Mini could be upgraded at any time.
However, from the roadmap I don't think that the lower end Core 2 Duos are shipping yet. I always thought it was odd that Intel would release the top-of-the-line chips first since there would be fewer production units which fit the standards (whereas running a CPU at a lower clockspeed or smaller cache would be OK).

Could these be Apples baby-steps into the console Market?
I predict we're going to hear about more than baby steps before the end of the year. If Apple really takes on gaming, it could be really cool with all the devices you could have for interaction and play.
I think we'll hear more from the WDC.

What do you guys mean no student discount?
Is that only on launch day or is that a permanent thing now at Regent street? First it's the iPods that don't have any student discount and now the OS? That's a little too harsh don't you think?
Here's why, it's something like 75 on their Apple.com/uk for students, but if you look at the US Student price it's only $65, so..... I'm getting screwed either way!! With or without student discount it's WAY too expensive in the UK.
Ok, so, when I saw the line of people circling the entire building, I was more impressed about that and wanting to know JUST how long the line of people actually was than getting Leopard. See, I can just pick it up from anywhere else if need be or today at apple or tomorrow... I don't need the insane people trying to cut in and giving me attitude when I can simply wait a few days and then get it nice and calmly.
Anyway, I think Apple should have opened up their apparels store again. With so many people buying apple products so enthusiastically, why not open up a section in Apple store for, T-Shirts, watches, badges, stickers, pins you name it. Like they once had. I think it would sell very well, if only they'd do that.
But, what you are saying is that the Regent Street isn't offering any Student Discount on Leopard? At all?
And there were no deaths reported yesterday during the premier!! That's probably the best news huh?
;)
Lyra if you had read the thread you would have seen my comment about the student discount in the store.
I just came back from the store.
Incidentally, they are *not* offering *any* form of student discount on Leopard here. No higher education discount and no standard discount. Full price or family pack price only.
This is not TRUE I just showed them my univeristy ID and I got the discount. Btw when I came to the store it was about 18:15 and although the queue stretched around the block it only took 10 min before I was in the store and got my hands on a copy of leopard.
No tshirt unfortunately, which simply means that by 10pm tonight the Apple Store at Regent street will by my estimation have sold a few thousand copies. Amazing how an operating system can cause such interest, but that's what Apple do well.

It is funny HOW NO ONE clicked on these links. It has all the info here, and you can see what the differences are... or people can just keep arguing.
An image like the ones linked are just about the best way to illustrate the difference.
having attempted to read the entire thread, I cannot for the life of me understand what thatisme and flosseR are arguing about!
It is SO SIMPLE. Take lens "X", assuming it functions on both Crop and FF cameras.
Shoot a scene with "X" on a FF camera. If you crop it down to .625 of it's original size from the center, you will have the EXACT same image as the crop sensor camera produces with "X", noise/details/crap like that aside.
There is no argument here.

Thicker or not, I think the white iPhone is rather odd looking. Looked great online, so we went into the Apple Store to pick one up for my wife. We were both disappointed with the phone in person, however. It just looks like plastic, and the white doesn't seem to work well with where it meets the aluminum.
